Oh me oh my I've been a very very very busy lady this past couple months, and alas have not blogged in quite some time now. I've become addicted to WoW too, which really doesn't help things much, it's a full time job on top of my actually full time job, my sisters and one of their bf's and I have been playing together and its quite fun but entirely too time consuming.
A few weeks ago I received the Microsoft Zune as a part of a promotion done by Matchstick, I just have to say it is the best media player I've ever owned, it actually does compete and I think out performs the iPod. I've been asked about it numerous times while using it, the most common question is "hey what is that??" Then I would go into my shpeal about it and people seemed genuinely interested but wondered why they had never heard of it before, perhaps some catchy commercials like the ipod has would be a good move to spread the word, use DJ's or dance music artists(hint hint). It's a slick lil player that doesn't fail to impress the average techno geek, and the versatility really makes people interested when I've shown them the features or let them mess about with it, I suggest it to anyone in the market for something different.
I liked that I can burn music from my CDs to my heart's content and sync them to the Zune. I can sync non-protected MP3s and AAC files and import my iTunes library and playlists. I can purchase songs from the online Marketplace, either by tune or by album and the price varies, though most songs are around one dollar, which I find a bit steep, because realistically I could go to the real store and buy the CD for the same price. The Marketplace, for better or worse, uses the points system rather than dollar values so you buy blocks of points and use those to buy tunes. You can also buy a $15/month all you can eat subscription that allows you to download as much as you like and keep it as long as you continue to pay the monthly fee. I put mainly DJ mixes on it and it works far better than my Sony ever did for that purpose I haven't run into one single issue with it not syncing what I had added to it. It also plays video and holds photos, so its a very versitle player.
The Zune looks like a nice pieces of hardware, it's light, has scratch resistant glass and a nice sized LCD color display. The look and feel is almost identical to Apple's first second generation Nano in my opinion. The Zune has large modern fonts which I found so much better than on any others I had seen and used. You navigate menus by sliding or applying little pressure in the four directions and select items by pressing down on the on the middle pad. The navigation control, which is dubbed the 'Zune pad', was initially a little difficult to get used to but after a few minutes of scrolling around and searching through different categories, it became apparent that the Zune peeps knew what they were doing when they designed it.
This player seems to be a heavy contender with other comparable MP3 players out there. I think it will attract those seeking more than the standard features found on the third-generation Apple iPod Nano, which before I received my Zune was my next logical purchase. and now I would suggest it over the iPod to anyone in the market for a mp3 player, the only thing it seems to be missing is an equalizer, which it is in desperate need of, for us bass heads.
